CROWD FARMING

CROWD FARMING
Asylum Seekers Resource Centre and 3000Acres collaboration.

When: Sunday November 12, 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm

Where: Inner West Veggie Patch
130 - 186 Buckley Street, Footscray Victoria.

Tiny Trowellers, it's time to plant out a food garden to benefit the Melbourne refugee community at
Footscray's Inner West Veggie Patch

3000Acres have secured the vacant land, and the ASRC have 1/3 dedicated to growing food for their refugee clientele.

Do you have seeds, compost, worm bins, herb plants, veggie seedlings or fruit trees?
Any donation would be happily received to plant into developing an ongoing food source.   Can you come along for the day with gloves, boots and tools to plant out the garden?
Parking is readily available in the local streets, and the Middle Footscray train station is pictured adjacent to the property.

Banksia Sustainability Foundation Awards

Congratulations!

The Banksia Sustainability Foundation Awards ceremony was held last night in Sydney.  It was a thrill and honour for Tiny Trowel to be named as a finalist in the Communication for Change Award category.  To be listed amongst major companies was truly awesome!
Congratulations to the winner - 'War On Waste' film makers.
The documentary series was a catalyst for sweeping changes in industry, commerce and neighbourhoods.  Signifiant influence towards living a more sustainable lifestyle has motivated thousands of Australians to adopt more environmentally friendly choices.  Well done!
'War OnWaste' film makers were so impressive they took out the overall winner with the Golden Award.  Congratulations once again.
A big thanks and shout out to Costa for his live broadcast on Facebook!
Banksia Award film, made in my own home!
While I was indisposed in Melbourne, the film brought the story of
Tiny Trowel to Sydney.
Bless and Opa!

Vision

A Victoria where anyone facing food insecurity has access to ample fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables.

How Might We....

... supply fresh fruit and veggies to those facing crises that engages the wider community?

Mission

Tiny Trowel seeks to engage the wider community to supply fresh fruit and veggies to NFP food relief providers and empower people to develop sustainable approaches using permaculture principals.

Aims and objectives

Tiny Trowel aims to harness the power and generosity of the wider community - 'The Crowd' - through:
1. Crowd Harvests - providing avenues through which home produce gardeners might donate fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables to food relief providers
2. Crowd Sharing- developing faith community projects to cultivate their land, enriching their food relief programs
3. Crowd Farming - inviting the community to donate food plants to farm public land
4. Crowd Talks - talks to community members to explore ways to raise their own home produce gardens

Our story

Created in 2016, Tiny Trowel collaborates with any community working to reduce food insecurity. We align programs with your vision to meet the need of people passing through a season of crisis. We engage "The Crowd" or the wider community in alleviating hunger, and empowering all stakeholders with horticulture, permaculture and self sustainability skills.

Compelled to Action

The ABS provides overwhelming data on Australia's homelessness issues, and connected to this is food insecurity.

Food Relief Providers are reporting that the increasing numbers of those presenting for assistance is increasing to the point where they can no longer meet the need.

On Census night 2011 there were 105,237 people experiencing homelessness, with 45,813 or 44% of these women. Australian Bureau of Statistics, Census Data (2011)

Domestic and family violence/Homelessness/Food Insecurity

Women are more likely to be victims of domestic and family violence, and because of this threat to their safety women (and children) are forced, or make decisions to leave their home. Over a third of women over the age of 15 have experienced physical, psychological and/or sexual violence at the hands of a current or former partner. Mouzos & Makkai, 2004,International Violence Against Women Survey

Domestic and family violence is the number one reason why people present to specialist homeless services, with 55% of female clients citing this reason and a total of 25% of all clients.www.homelessnessaustralia.org.au
